Flag of Guinea
Guinea’s flag is three vertical bands of equal width: red, yellow and green. The constitution gives the colours no meaning; at Guinea’s national citizenship week in 2024, a senior official of Coyah prefecture said the bands stand for the ancestors’ sacrifices for the freedom, dignity and happiness of the Guinean people.

How to read it
Article 1 of Guinea’s constitution of 2010 says the flag is made of three vertical and equal bands of red, yellow and green. It gives no shades and no proportions. Lanciné Kaba, secretary general for administrative affairs of Coyah prefecture, gave the meaning quoted above on 13 December 2024, at the fifth National Week of Citizenship and Peace (SENACIP), in a speech that also tied the national motto to unity in work, justice and solidarity.

What flag is red, yellow and green?
Guinea’s, in vertical bands of equal width. The same three colours in vertical bands make three other flags, which differ in the order of the colours and in the star.
Mali’s flag has them the other way round: its constitution lists green, gold and red, where Guinea’s lists red, yellow and green. Senegal’s is green, gold and red like Mali’s, with a green five-pointed star in the centre of the gold. Cameroon’s is green, red and yellow, with a gold star in the centre of the red.
