November birthstones: topaz and citrine

How to read it

Topaz was the only November birthstone on the 1912 list; citrine was added in 1952. GIA's list gives topaz in colours from colourless and light blue through yellow, orange, pink and violet, and citrine in yellow and orange.

What colour is the November birthstone?

Yellow to orange, for most people: citrine is the yellow to red-orange variety of quartz, and the International Gem Society's chart gives golden topaz and citrine for November. Blue topaz, common in jewellery, is in the vast majority of cases colourless topaz treated with irradiation and heat, GIA notes.
