Flag of Niger
Niger’s flag is three equal horizontal stripes, orange, white and green from the top, with an orange disc in the middle of the white. Niger’s constitution describes the flag and gives no meaning for its colours or the disc.

- Flag of Côte d’IvoireCôte d’Ivoire’s flag is three vertical bands of equal width: orange, white and green. Presenting it in 1959, Minister of State Jean Delafosse gave orange as the colour of the country’s rich and generous land and the blood of a young people fighting for its emancipation, white as peace, “the peace of law”, and green as hope, for Ivorians the certainty of a better future.

How to read it
The first article of Niger’s constitution of 2010, as revised in 2017, makes the flag the national emblem: a tricolour of three horizontal, rectangular and equal bands, orange, white and green from top to bottom, the white middle band bearing an orange disc in its centre. It gives no proportions, no shades and no size for the disc. The same article describes the arms of the Republic, a green shield with a gold sun among its charges, set on a trophy of four flags of Niger.

Niger’s flag and India’s side by side
India’s flag is also a horizontal tricolour with a round emblem in the white band. By the resolution of India’s Constituent Assembly of 22 July 1947 its stripes are deep saffron, white and dark green, and the emblem is a navy blue wheel about as wide as the white band. Niger’s disc is orange. The Indian resolution makes the flag ordinarily two units high for every three long; Niger’s constitution fixes no ratio.
Telling it from Côte d’Ivoire’s flag
Côte d’Ivoire’s flag has the same three colours, but in vertical bands and with no disc; its constitution names them orange, white and green.
The orange on flags made in Niamey
In Niamey in 2023, when flags in the national colours filled the streets, the flag maker Djaffar Danjouma told Le360 that some makers put pale red or pale green in place of the orange and the green.
