Windshield washer fluid symbol

The windshield washer fluid symbol. On the dashboard it is the light for a low washer fluid level; under the hood it marks the cap of the washer fluid reservoir.

How to read it

Ford’s F-150 manual lists a low washer fluid level warning lamp, on vehicles that have one, which lights when the washer fluid is low. Volkswagen shows the symbol, a spray of washer fluid, in amber for “not enough windshield washer fluid”. Under the hood, Chevrolet’s Bolt EUV manual identifies the washer fluid tank as the one whose cap has the washer symbol on it.

Also searched as: low washer fluid light, washer fluid cap symbol, washer fluid light, wiper fluid symbol.

Dashboard symbols vary by manufacturer. The vehicle's owner's manual or a qualified mechanic can say what a light means for a particular vehicle.

A message instead of a light

Some cars show words in place of the symbol. Hyundai’s 2024 Tucson shows “Low washer fluid” when the reservoir is nearly empty, and Nissan’s 2024 Rogue shows “Low Washer Fluid” when the window washer fluid is low; both are on vehicles so equipped.

Look-alikes

Volkswagen’s windshield wiper malfunction light, a yellow windshield wiper with no spray, is a different amber light: it means the wiper itself has a fault.
