E10+ (Everyone 10+)

E10+ (Everyone 10+) is the ESRB rating for a video game whose content the ESRB considers generally suitable for ages 10 and up.

How to read it

In the ESRB’s words, an E10+ game “may contain more cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language and/or minimal suggestive themes” than an E (Everyone) game. The ESRB, the video game industry’s rating body in North America, added the category in 2005 for games that may be suitable for ages 10 and older. It sits between E and T (Teen), which starts at 13.

How E10+ differs from E

The ESRB defines E as content generally suitable for all ages, with at most minimal cartoon, fantasy or mild violence and infrequent mild language. E10+ allows more of that violence, mild language and minimal suggestive themes, which the ESRB’s Suggestive Themes descriptor defines as “mild provocative references or materials”. The Fantasy Violence descriptor means violent actions of a fantasy nature in situations easily distinguishable from real life. The ESRB says 65% of the ratings it gave physical and console downloadable games in 2024 were E or E10+.

No age 10 in Europe

PEGI, used across most of Europe, has no rating at 10. Its nearest ages are PEGI 7 (very mild violence that is implied, non-detailed or non-realistic) and PEGI 12 (slightly more graphic violence towards fantasy characters, or non-realistic violence towards human-like characters). See the PEGI ages.
