Halal certification marks
A halal mark says a certifier has checked that a food or product meets Islamic dietary law.
How to read it
Halal marks belong to the organizations that certify: IFANCA, for example, provides halal certification to check compliance with halal requirements, and its own mark is the Crescent-M. For meat and poultry in the United States, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service requires products from federally inspected plants labeled “Halal” or “Zabiah Halal” to be handled according to Islamic law and under Islamic authority.
