Certified Humane
The Certified Humane label of Humane Farm Animal Care: the farm or producer met the program’s animal welfare standards when it was audited.
How to read it
Humane Farm Animal Care says its certification means a farm or producer was evaluated and found to comply with its standards at the time of audit or inspection. The standards are written to give farm animals an environment in which they can engage in natural behaviors, and were developed with animal scientists, veterinarians and producers. The program publishes them, and has run since 2003.

Indoor, free-range and pasture
The ASPCA describes the program as including standards for indoor housing with enrichments, for free-range systems and for pasture-based systems, open to farms of all sizes. The label covers dairy, lamb, poultry and beef.
Who checks
Ecolabel Index lists Certified Humane as verified by the organization that runs it, rather than by an independent third party.
