Ford blind spot information system lamp

Ford’s blind spot information system lamp in the instrument cluster: it comes on when the system is switched off or has a fault. The blind spot alerts themselves light up in the exterior mirrors.

How to read it

Ford’s 2024 Escape manual says the blind spot information system is designed to detect vehicles that may have entered the blind spot zone. When it detects one, an alert indicator lights in the exterior mirror on that side, and flashes if the turn signal is switched on towards it. In the instrument cluster, a warning lamp comes on with a message when the system is switched off, and when the system detects a fault.

Ford lights vary by model and year. The owner’s manual for the vehicle says what each light means on it, and a Ford dealer or a qualified mechanic can say what it means for a particular car.

Steady lamp, flashing mirrors

When the system is switched on or off, the alert indicators in the mirrors flash twice. With the message “Blindspot Not Available Sensor Blocked See Manual”, the sensors are blocked.

What the manual says to do

For a fault, Ford’s Escape manual says: “Have your vehicle checked as soon as possible.”

What NHTSA calls it

NHTSA calls this kind of system blind spot warning: it alerts drivers with an audio or visual warning when there are vehicles in adjacent lanes that the driver may not see when changing lanes. NHTSA notes that makers use different names for the same driver assistance technologies.

Look-alikes
