Inventory triangle
Material waiting between two processes. The inventory icon is a triangle with the letter I inside, with the quantity or the days of stock written beneath it.
How to read it
The UW-Stout study says the triangle shows inventory between two processes, with the amount noted beneath it, and that it also stands for stores of raw materials and finished goods. The University of Minho researchers note that the lead time written below the triangle covers products waiting and those being processed. The Lean Enterprise Institute defines inventory as materials, and information, present along a value stream between processing steps.

Look-alikes
A Supermarket is also stock between processes, but a controlled one, drawn as an open-sided box with shelves. A FIFO lane holds a limited queue between two lines.
