Honda ACC indicator

Honda’s Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) indicator: white when ACC is switched on, green when the RES/+/SET/− switch is pressed, and amber for a problem with the system.

How to read it

Honda’s 2024 Civic manual says ACC with Low Speed Follow helps keep a constant speed and a set following interval behind a vehicle detected ahead and, if that vehicle stops, can slow and stop the car without the driver keeping a foot on the brake or the accelerator. The ACC indicator lights up in white when the driver presses its button, and in green when the driver presses the RES/+/SET/− switch up or down.

Honda lights vary by model and year. The owner’s manual for the vehicle says what each light means on it, and a Honda dealer or a qualified mechanic can say what it means for a particular car.

The amber light

An amber ACC indicator comes on if there is a problem with ACC with Low Speed Follow. The manual adds that it may come on for a while when the Maximum Load Limit is exceeded, and that ACC is then canceled automatically.

What the manual says to do

If the amber indicator comes on while driving, Honda’s manual says: “Have your vehicle checked by a dealer.”

Look-alikes

Switched to ordinary cruise control, the Civic shows a separate Cruise Mode indicator: white in cruise mode, and green once a speed has been set.

What NHTSA calls it

NHTSA calls this kind of system adaptive cruise control: it automatically adjusts the vehicle’s speed to keep a pre-set distance from the vehicle in front. NHTSA notes that makers use different names for the same driver assistance technologies.
