Stability control indicator
The indicator for electronic stability and traction control: it flashes while the system is working, and can also show a fault.
Dashboard symbols vary by manufacturer. The vehicle's owner's manual or a qualified mechanic can say what a light means for a particular vehicle.
How to read it
The symbol is the back of a car above two squiggly lines, the skid marks. Nissan's LEAF manual says its slip indicator blinks when the stability or traction control system is operating, a sign that the vehicle is nearing its traction limits, and Toyota says a buzzer may sound to show the system is working. Canada's Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations use the same symbol, in yellow, as the tell-tale for a stability control malfunction.
